Christopher John Montag, 66, of Iowa City died Thursday January 9, 2020 at University of Iowa Hospital after a 4-month battle with brain cancer.
A celebration of life will be scheduled this spring in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Iowa Donor Network (iowadonornetwork.org/donate)
Chris was born July 17, 1953 in Denison, IA to Maurice and Gretchen (Plapp) Montag. He grew up in Woodbine, IA and graduated from Woodbine HS. He graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in mathematics and physics and from the University of Iowa with a degree in engineering and an MBA.
Chris was a very dedicated father. He loved spending time with his children and was very proud of his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing Scrabble, riding bicycles and going on RAGBRAI, traveling to Hawaii, and cheering on the Hawkeyes.
Chris is survived by his children, Niki (Jacob) Schmidtke of Chattanooga, TN and Dr. Peter Montag of Iowa City, IA; their mother, Dr. Debra Suda of Iowa City, IA; his grandchildren Olivia and Joseph Schmidtke; and three siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
Chris’ family would like to thank BrightStar Care for the dedicated and compassionate care they gave him during his final months as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff of the University of Iowa Hospital.
