Robert Lee Fleming, 90, of Solon, died on Thursday, January 9, at Solon Care Center.

A graveside service will be scheduled this summer at Sharon Cemetery, near Farmington, Iowa. Memorials may be directed toward the Solon Retirement Village Foundation, Iowa City Hospice, or to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora.

Robert was born February 9, 1929, in Van Buren County, IA, son of Morris and Freda (Boone) Fleming. Robert married Shirley Louise Snider on September 5, 1948 at Sharon Church near Farmington, IA. They had three children; Randall, Linda, and Paul. Shirley died December 11, 2018.

Robert worked for Farm Service in Danville, Des Moines, and Eldora, IA. He was active in community activities and a member of Kiwanis and Masons. Robert was an active member of his church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Robert enjoyed gardening and bird watching.

Robert is survived by his children, Randall (Jane) Fleming of Iowa City, IA, Linda (Michael) Anderson of Chicago, IL, and Paul Fleming of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Scott Fleming of Kansas City, MO, and Jeff (Nike) Fleming of Iowa City; great-grandchildren: Connor, Jack, and Lydia; brother Jim (Kolene) Fleming of Burlington, IA. Robert is also survived by numerous extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, his parents, his sister, Betty Hohl, and brother, Merton Fleming.

Robert’s family would like to thank the staff of Solon Assisted Living, Solon Skilled Care and Iowa City Hospice for their compassionate care they gave Robert and Shirley these past 6 years.
