Bernice E. Lynch, 82, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005 in her home after an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City with The Very Reverend Rudolph T. Juarez officiating. Bernice chose to be cremated. Private burial of cremains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. The family will greet friend’s Friday at the church from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or The Iowa City Catholic Community Foundation.

Bernice was born April 4, 1923 in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Peter J. & Loretta G. (Rogers) Keating. Graduating from St. Patrick’s High School in 1942, she later graduated from Iowa City Business School. Bernice lived most of her life in Iowa City. She married Leo J. Lynch August 16, 1944 at St. Patrick’s in Iowa City.

Bernice worked at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for 22 years as a Physical Therapy Assistant, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Helping Hands and Needle worker’s. For many years, she also volunteered her time planning and organizing funeral lunches at St. Patrick’s.

Joyce Lehman (Gerald) of Missouri Valley, Iowa
Janet Harris (Courtney) of Ojai, California
37 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren

Sisters:
Mary Agnes Melton of Springfield, Illinois and Eileen Foughty of Iowa City

Sisters in law: Kathleen “Kay” O’Brien of Iowa City and Lillian Rohret (Harold “Bud”) of Cosgrove, Iowa

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo; two sons, John & Gary;
a daughter Mary Lynch; two sisters, Genevieve Kuhlman & Dorothy King; grandchildren Emily Lynch, Bradley Lynch and a Baby Boy Lynch.

Bernice passed away the same way that she lived her life – in prayer and grace.
