Debbie Cowherd, 64, of Iowa City, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at her home.

Debbie’s family is celebrating her life privately. In lieu of flowers, Debbie’s family requests memorials be directed toward the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, where Debbie knitted and donated baby hats for newborns each year.

Debbie was born on October 2, 1955 in Colorado, daughter of Donald William Cowherd and Donna Lou Page. For many years Debbie worked as a medical transcriptionist for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Debbie enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for her beloved dog, Buddy, reading, knitting and crocheting, and listening to Iowa Public Radio.

Debbie is survived by her son, Matthew (Jessica) Shannon of Des Moines; her sibling Richard (Denice) Cowherd; and her niece Jessica Spencer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert.
