Norma Jean Watkinson, 87, of West Branch died unexpectedly November 7, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

A celebration of life will be held November 10, 2019 at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to The Salvation Army.

Norma was born April 25, 1932 in Muscatine, Iowa, to Asa and Marie (Etter) Goldesberry. At an early age, she met the love of her life, Evan Watkinson and they were united in marriage on March 13, 1948 in Tipton, Iowa. The couple spent 71- loving and unforgettable years together, even going to jail for being out past curfew together on their wedding day.
Norma and Evan later had six children, one girl and five boys. They lived in Lone Tree and Iowa City before settling in West Branch in 1979. She worked for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics as a central sterilizing technician for 25 years, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the Lone Tree Presbyterian Church while residing in Lone Tree.
Norma adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as they adored her and loved spending time with them and the rest of her family.

Survivors include her husband, Evan Watkinson of West Branch, Iowa; four children, Donnie Watkinson of Lone Tree, Iowa, Mike (Lori) Watkinson of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Jerry (Shirley) Watkinson of Davenport, Iowa, and Jeff (Barb) Watkinson of Dyersville, Iowa; son-in-law, Jay Gunden of Farwell, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, Chris, Kelsie, Cody, Kim, Danielle, Rachel, Renee, Tim, Machelle, Stephanie, Ashley, Christina and Tony; many great-grandchildren and an adopted brother, John.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Barb; her son, Charlie in 2005; her daughter, Peggy Gunden in 2018, and a great-grandson, Wyatt.
