Cletus Maher Dies Suddenly

Cletus J. Maher, 50, of 3 East Harrison street, collapsed and died in downtown Iowa City about 8 a.m. today. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Maher who was stricken at the intersection of Dubuque and Washington streets, was taken to Mercy hospital by police ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival there.

He was born August 14, 1906, at Holbrook, and was a resident of Iowa City for seven years. A mechanic, Mr. Maher was employed here by the Central Ready-Mixed Concrete Co.

Mr. Maher was a member of St. Mary's church, the Holy Name society and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his widow, Esther; three sons, Daniel, of California, and David and Thomas, both at home and two daughters, Elizabeth in nurses training at Davenport and Theresa, at home; his father, Phillip Maher, of Iowa City, and three sisters, Mary C. Maher and Mrs. Walter Wombacher, both of Iowa CIty, and Mrs. Claire Groves, of Manchester.

Funeral services are pending at the Hohenschuh mortuary. (Burial was in the new section of the St. Joseph's cemetery on Monday, April 1, 1957)
