PHILIP J. MAHER DIES; RITES SET
Philip J. Maher, 84, 415 North Governor St., died suddenly of a heart attack early today. He had been in poor health for the past three years.

Mr. Maher was born in Johnson County, near Cosgrove, April 6, 1876. He farmed in the Cosgrove area until he retired and moved to Iowa city in 1945. Following his retirement, he was an employee of the University of Iowa and later an employee of Mercy Hospital.

He was a member of St. Wenceslaus church and a member of the Holy Name society of the church.

He is survived by three daughters, Miss Mary C. Maher at home; Mrs. Walter L. Wombacher, Iowa City; and Mrs. Clair Groves, Manchester. There are also eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery. The rosary will be recited on Monday at 8 p.m. at the Donohue mortuary.
