Mrs. Michael E. Maher Dies Monday at La Crosse

Mrs. Michael E. Maher, 57, of 221 Summit street, died in a La Crosse, Wis., hospital following a major operation about 10 a.m. Monday. The operation, seemingly successful, was performed a few days ago.

Mrs. Maher had gone to visit her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Floyd Ernst, at New Albin, Iowa, when she became ill. She was taken to the La Crosse hospital where she died.

Mrs. Maher is survived by her husband and nine children: Lieut. Lawrence F. Maher, with the navy at Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Charles H. Scholz, of Des Moines; Mrs. Ernst of New Albin; Mrs. John Henderson of Glendale, Calif; Mrs. Fred Radloff of Spokane, Wash; First Lieut. Michael D. Maher, now stationed in Belgium; William Maher, of Iowa City; Srgt John E. Maher, also in Belgium and Anne Maher, at home. Eight grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Maher was active in local church work, was a member of the Catholic Daughters, president of the Women's Relief Corps and president-elect of the Daughters of Veterans.

Her body will be brought to the Hohenschuh mortunary this evening and will be at the home Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery here.
