Bassia Brainina, 90, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at her home surrounded by family. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in St. Petersburg Cemetery, Russia.

Bassia was born on June 1, 1929 in Brindino, Toropetz District, Pskov Region, Russia, the daughter of Izrail Brainin and Rosa Borodulina. She received her Masters degree in Geology from The Leningrad State University. Bassia was united in marriage to Boris Petrov on April 1, 1954 in Leningrad, Russia. He preceded her in death on May 18, 1999. She moved to Iowa City in 2003.

Bassia is survived by her two daughter, Olga Petrova (Mikhail Bergal) of Iowa City, and Maria Yugaldina (Maxim Yugaldin) of St. Petersburg, Russia; four grandchildren, Dmitri Petrov, Asya Bergal, Timothy Bergal, and Alexandra Dosova (Mikhail Dosov ) ; and one great grandchild, Anastasia Dosova.

Bassia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Alexander Brainin.
