Hannah B. Van Nostrand Bowling and Martha J. Van Nostrand

Hannah B. Van Nostrand Bowing, 92, died Sept. 2, 1998, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City and Martha J. Van Nostrand, 89, died April 23, 1996, also at Oaknoll Retirement Residence in Iowa City.

A memorial graveside service and interment of cremains for the sisters will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating.

Following the service at the cemetery, a lunch and family visitation will be held at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Hannah Van Nostrand Bowling was born June 15, 1906, in Fairfield and Martha Van Nostrand was born Sept. 18, 1907, in Fairfield, both the daughters of Lewis W. and Nellie Stever Van Nostrand. Hannah married Otto A. Bowling Aug. 19, 1943, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Hannah Van Nostrand Bowling had been a school teacher and assistant high school principal in Keokuk.

Martha Van Nostrand was called "Miss Van" and served as manager of Hillcrest Dorm at the University of Iowa for 26 years before her retirement in 1975.

Survivors include Hannah Van Nostrand Bowling's husband of Iowa City; and one sister, Virginia Van Nostrand of Iowa City.

They were preceded in death by thier parents; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Van Nostrand; and two brothers, George Van Nostrand and Lewis Van Nostrand.
