Mary Elizabeth Holderness, 86 formerly of Iowa City, passed away Sunday April 10, 2005 following a lengthy illness at Parkview Manor Care Center, Wellman, IA.

Mary was born January 9, 1919 in Iowa City to Marvin and Lillian (Neuzil) Breese. She married Pat W.L. Holderness on February 9, 1935. He passed away April 17, 1966. Mary was a housekeeper at Oaknoll Retirement Residence for 23 years before retiring.

Mary is survived by one son; James Holderness of Iowa City, a daughter; Patricia Wilker of Madison, WI, a sister; Betty Meka of Iowa City, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Dorothy Fuhrmeister and Ida Eckrich and a brother Lawrence Breese

Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Tuesday April 12, 2005 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave, Iowa City, with burial at Oakland Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9-11 on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mary’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 948 E. 11th St, Washington, IA 52353.
