Theodore Allen Vanderwiel, son of Allen and Kristine (Gleason) Vanderwiel, was born on February 27, 2019 at 7:07 p.m. and peacefully met the eyes of Jesus the same day.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, Iowa with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private graveside committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Solon, Iowa.
Theodore is survived by his loving parents of Nevada, Iowa and his two sisters, Bailey Rose and Paige Marie; grandparents, Mark & Cecile Vanderwiel, Michael & Renee Gleason; uncles and aunt, Timothy Vanderwiel, Brett Vanderwiel, and Luke & Jackie (Gleason) Schlitzer; cousins, Adelyn and Kass Schlitzer; great-grandparents, Audrey Vanderwiel, Charles & Judith Gleason, and John Lawler; great-great-grandparent, Marilyn Hayward. Theodore was preceded in death by great grandparents, Cornelius Vanderwiel Jr., James & Mary Gadbois, and Irene Lawler.
The family would like to thank the staff at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinic for the incredible care provided to Theo and the entire family, with a special thank you to Dr. David Bender, Dr. Edward Nguyen, Father Greg Steckel, and all our nurses.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family would appreciate a donation in his honor be made to “Child Casket Fund” at New Melleray Abbey (https://newmelleray.org/Trappist-Caskets) or the “Touching Hearts Program” at UIHC.
Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that take up the most room in our hearts. Theodore gave us a lifetime of love during his short time on earth. He will be greatly missed.
