Funeral services for James W. Cerny, 89, owner and operator of a general store in Solon for many years, were held Jan. 22 at Solon with the Rev. Carl F. Clems officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Cerny died in an Iowa City nursing home Jan. 20 after a long illness.
Mr. Cerny was born in Czechoslovakia Sept. 26, 1868, and came to Solon when he was 2 years old. His wife, the former Delia Pauba, died in September, 1947.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Leo Kessler and a son, Joe F., both of Solon, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Meintzer, Iowa City, and Mrs. Anna Hudachek, Lone Tree, and a brother, Charles, Iowa City.
