Lewis C. Ropp died at his home North of Kalona on highway 1 on Tuesday, June 7, 1967 a the age of 75 years, 6 months and 6 days of age after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at the Sunnyside Mennonite Church with the Rev. Morris Swartzendruber and David L. Yoder in charge. Interment will be made in the East Union Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Peterseim Funeral Service. Friends and relatives may call a the family home until time of services.
Lewis C. Ropp, son of Christian and Lydia Yoder Ropp, was born December 1, 1891 near Kalona. He was baptized and married in the Old Order Amish church. He became a member of the Conservative Mennonite church many years ago and was a member of the Sunnyside congregation since its beginning in 1957.
On November 11, 1915 he was married to Magdalena Hershberger and they lived on the same farm north of Kalona over fifty years. Several months ago they moved to a new home on the same farm. Mr. Ropp also did carpenter work in addition to his farming. His last project was a grandfather clock which he finished last October.
Surviving are his widow and ten children, Esther at home, Lydia, Mrs. Alvin Gingerich; Edith, Mrs. Paul Helmuth; Verda, Mrs. William Swartzendruber, all of Kalona; Ada, Mrs. Ivo Gingerich, Phoenix, Arizona; Effie, Mrs. Harold Baer, Youngstown, Ohio; Martha, Mrs. James Bender, Vasser, Mich.; three sons, Ernest, Omar and Vernon of Kalona.
Also surviving are 42 grandchildren, five brothers, Sol, Joe, George and Jeff of Kalona and Chris of Jamesport, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Miller, Mrs. Ed Yoder, Kalona and Mrs. David M. Miller, Riverside, and one uncle, Mose P. Yoder, Kalona.
He was preceded in death by two daughters: Mary Jane who died in infancy and Ella Mae, who died at the age of 14 years; also two sisters.
