Kerry Michael Fitzpatrick, 73, passed away after a brief illness in McAllen, Texas on March 4, 2019.
Kerry is survived by his children: Kelly Fitzpatrick, Kyle (Leslie) Fitzpatrick, Kristi (Troy) Fitzpatrick and Ryan Fitzpatrick; and grandchildren: Mikey, Mitchell, Emily, Skye, Julia, Veda, Fisher, Heather, Mallory, Skylar, Michael and Anna; and companion: Sue Lenz.
Kerry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Fitzpatrick; his parents, Melva & Edward Fitzpatrick and his sister, Lynne Fitzpatrick.
Kerry was born November 4, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
A lover of the outdoors, Kerry spent his younger years camping, fishing, earning badges as a boy scout, and ultimately grew into an avid mountain climber. He loved rock music, cool cars, and his black leather jacket, collar up of course. Kerry married Mary Jo, his high school sweetheart, in 1967. He always worked hard and enjoyed a fulfilling career at Proctor and Gamble which ultimately led to one of his greatest life adventures. With four young children in tow, Kerry and Mary Jo took the opportunity to live in Belgium for two years. These young parents explored Europe with their children, instilling a love of travel and adventure.
Kerry and Mary Jo returned to Cincinnati and then, in 1985, took on a new Proctor and Gamble opportunity and moved to Iowa City. After 30 years of service, Kerry retired from Proctor and Gamble and joined Stanley Consultants, where he worked until his second retirement in 2007.
Kerry spent his last years enjoying life and traveling with his companion, Sue Lenz. They split their time between enjoying time spent with their families in Iowa and enjoying warm weather and friends in Texas. Texas-life suited Kerry and he spoke very highly of his community of friends at Trophy Gardens.
Kerry loved the simple joys in life…a Sunday drive, fishing with the kids, a great meal, a good card game. Kerry was the type of man that would give you the shirt off of his back, even if he could not understand why you just didn’t take care of the shirt you had in the first place. Kerry left behind a family that loved him, respected him and will forever be grateful for him.
May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields.
Rest in Peace. We love you.
