Howard G. Wombacher, 83, of 1430 Hollywood Blvd. died Friday, April 1, 2005 in his home following a lengthy illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 10:00 am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will military honors provided by local military organizations will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A luncheon in the Parish Hall will follow the services. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:15 and a Parish Vigil Service at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Howard was born April 2, 1921 in Hills, Iowa, the son of Raymond & Mary Helen Deatsch Wombacher. He was a 1939 graduate of University High School. Howard served in the US Navy in the Pacific during WWII. He married Darlene Page November 20, 1951 in Holy Trinity- St. Mary’s Church in Keota, Iowa.

Howard was employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a painter for twenty nine years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City V.F.W. #3949 and Iowa
City Moose Lodge #1096.

Howard loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid card player and Hawkeye fan.

Howard is survived by his wife Darlene; his children, Connie (Randy) Jacobson of Fresno, California and sons Nicholas and Adam, Steve (Roxanne) Wombacher of Iowa City and children Clinton Howard and Genevieve Rose, Roger (Beth) Wombacher of Iowa City and daughters Bridget, Bronwen and Sally; Debbie (Dave) Johnson of Iowa City and children Lindsey and Ryan; Tina (Michael) Wolf of Huntley, Illinois and sons Mitchell and Andrew; son-in-law Jim (Jolene)Seaton of Dubuque and daughters Allison and Anna;
one sister Rosella McNerney of Annapolis, Maryland.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Jolene , brothers, Ernie, Jeff,
Leon, Walter, Don, Urban and two sisters Sylvia and Wilma
