Linda Joan Fairchild, 56, of 2304 MacBride Drive, Iowa City, died Monday March 21, 2005 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics following a short illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday March 25, 2005 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Ken Kuntz will officiate. Burial at Oakland Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Linda’s name to The Baby Fold, 108 East Willow, Normal, IL 61761.

Linda was born July 30, 1948 in Normal, IL to Robert and Lucille (Ward) Fairchild. She grew up in Manteno, IL. She married Chet Wildemuth on February 9, 2005 in Iowa City.

Linda received her B.A. from the University of Iowa. A Certificate of Public Management from Iowa State University and was pursuing her Masters Degree in Public Administration from Iowa State.

Linda spent 15 years as a federal and state grant writer as well as designing, developing, implementing and coordinating non profit programs for Mayors Youth Employment Program, The Sixth Judicial Department of Corrections and through her own company, The Write Direction.

Linda was a published author of “The Common Good”. She was a member of the American Association of Grant Professionals. Through her written word, Linda became a voice of those in our society who often times did not have a voice of their own. She championed and accepted all for who they were. Linda’s recent work and creative endeavors included her work with the Witwer Senior Center where she was a member of the Witwer Creative Writing Group. She also was involved in raising funds for the Milestones Adult Day Health Center in Marion. She truly enjoyed her work with the elders in our community and honored their contributions through her work. She was one of the founding members of the HOES (Heta, Delta, Sigma).

Linda was a devoted and loving wife, mother and Nana. She enjoyed traveling, photography, gardening, piano, cooking, hiking and crocheting. She will be greatly missed.

Linda is survived by her husband Chet Wildemuth; three children; Julie Miller of Houston, TX, Mike Miller of Fairbanks, AK and Jennifer Miller of Iowa City. Two grandchildren Haley Miller of Iowa City and Nicholas Sueppel of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
