Glen Leroy Hanson, of Iowa City, died Thursday evening his home after a long battle with cancer.

A gathering to celebrate Glen’s life will be from 5-7pm on Monday, January 28th at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed toward Iowa City Hospice or a local organization of your choice.

Glen was born July 28th,1955 at Camp Pendleton, CA, son of Merlin and Rosamond (Weber) Hanson. He grew up in Virginia before relocating to Seneca, IA. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy and married Ginger Pertl in August of 1973. After learning to become an upholsterer, they moved to Iowa City where he owned Glen's Upholstery and he also did customized work for GWAEA (Grant Wood Area Education Agency). He had a love of music, radio and nature.

Glen is survived by his wife Ginger, two sons Joshua (Jamie) and James (Courtney), two grandchildren Dillon and Kaylee, his mother, brothers Mark and John (Lynette), several nieces and nephews and his lab Holly.

He was preceded in death by his father, a sister Linda and infant daughter.

The family would like to thank the VA Hospital and Iowa City Hospice for his wonderful care in his last days.
