8 February 1917 - West Branch Times

The remains of Mrs. Jennie Myers, mother of Prof. Walter L. Myers, of S. U. I. were laid to rest, yesterday afternoon at Wilton.

Another surviving son is P. V. N. Myers, cashier of the Citizen's Savings bank, of West Branch.

Her husband, John Myers, died more than two decades ago.

Mrs. Myers' two sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Henry Giessler and Mrs. Emma Ingham, both of Muscatine, where she formerly lived, during the time Prof. Myers taught in the Muscatine high school. Two brothers also live, Dr. J. L. Pentzer, Webster City and F. S. Pentzer, Chicago.

Mrs. Myers resided in Muscatine, Cedar and Johnson counties many years. She was 65 years of age, and was a native of Georgetown, O. Her parents were Rev. and Mrs. Jacob Pentzer.

During the quarter of a century that Mrs. Myers was practically an invalid, keen mind worked nobly and brilliantly, though her body suffered from the attacks of ailments.

She devoted much of her time in later years, to authorship, and her stories were in demand in the magazines of the country, while her fairy tales, a volume of which was issued, are further proofs of her rare gifts as a charming writer.

A good and gifted woman is gone. Many friends will mourn. -- Iowa City Daily Press, Saturday, Feb. 3
