U. S. Niffenegger Rites Held Sunday Afternoon
Ulrich S. Niffenegger, son of Ulrich and Elizabeth Miller Niffenegger was born February 20, 1856 in Holmes County, Ohio, and died at his home in Iowa City Friday March 18, 1938 at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 28 days. When two years of age his parents moved from their Ohio home to the Sharon community where he grew to manhood and lived his entire life with the exception of the past nine years which were spent in Iowa City.
On January 10, 1884 he was united in marriage to Emma Snider with whom God granted him the privilege of companioning for 54 years. To this union were born five children, four sons and a daughter, the daughter having died in infancy.
In 1896 Mr. Niffenegger was received with a number of others, into the Sharon Evangelical church. Rev. Dubs was the officiating minister, and also the Bishop at that time. To this church he remained faithful until death.
Surviving are his wife and four sons, Clarence of West Chester; Floyd, Lee and Roscoe of Kalona; one foster daughter, Mrs. Lucy Diehl; one sister, Mrs. Barbara Sleichter of Iowa City; eleven grandchildren, two foster grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:15 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home in Iowa City, and at 2 o'clock at the Sharon Evangelical church with Rev. F. A. Pieper officiating. Interment was in the Sharon Cemetery.
