Former Resident Dies Sunday At Iowa City

Mrs. Emma Hesselschwerdt, 84, died at 5:45 Sunday morning at Mercy Hospital Iowa City where she had been seriously ill the past seven weeks.
Born March 5, 1864, in Sharon township, Johnson county, she was the daughter of John and Fannie Roessler, early pioneers of Johnson county. She lived on the home farm until her marriage to William Hesselschwerdt, who preceded her in death in June 1935. Mrs. Hesselschwerdt lived in Kalona until three years ago when she moved to Iowa City.
She was a life long member of the Sharon Evangelical church and was always active in the interests of the church.
Surviving are two sisters, Laura of Sharon, and Mrs. Cora Smith of Iowa City; two brothers, Henry of Sharon and Edwin of Otis Orchards, Washington; six step-children, Ed of Urbana, Illinois; Charles of Newton; Emil J. of Kalona; Dave of St. Joseph, Missouri; Mrs. Lydia Feldman, Ames; Mrs. Marie Sykes of Newton; eighteen step-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Sharon Evangelical church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Ira J. Hoover in charge. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
