Robert “Moon” Kahler, 85, of Oxford died peacefully Friday, April 13th at VAMC.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 18th at St. Mary’s Church in Oxford with Father Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Church. Military Honors will follow the funeral. Burial will be at a later date in the Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

Moon was born February 6, 1933 in Oxford, the son of Henry and Rosie Rotter Kahler. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, earning the rank of Corporal. On November 26, 1955 Moon married Patricia Kapfer.

Moon was employed for many years at the University of Iowa Vending Service, retiring in 1992. Prior to that he had worked at Amana Refrigeration.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Oxford American Legion Post 537. Moon liked to camp, fish and was an avid card player.

Moon is survived by his loving daughter, Becky Steele of Marion; two grandchildren, Melissa (Steve) Etheredge of Wellman and Brian (Dessirae) Dolezal of Marion; brother and sisters-in-law, Tom (Teresita) Kapfer, Carol Kapfer and Mary Ellen (Roger) Marks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and faithful companion, Pookie.
