8 December 1932 - West Branch Times

Ed Fitzpatrick, 54, a well known resident of Johnson county and newly elected to the Johnson county board of supervisors for the 1934 term, passed away at 11:30 o'clock Thursday evening at Mercy hospital. Death was caused by pneumonia.

Pneumonia developed from injuries Mr. Fitzpatrick received in an accidental fall while felling trees the previous Saturday.

Becoming entangled in a rope used in falling a tree, he was thrown into the air and suffered seven fractured ribs in the fall to the frozen ground. One lung was punctured and pneumonia resulted.

He was born in Cedar county, September 23, 1878 and resided there until 23 years old when he moved to Johnson county. He settled on a farm on East Lucas township just east of Iowa City and resided on the farm until his death.

He is survived by the widow and eight children, Frank, Richard, Donald, Gene and Ellen, 14, twins, Mary, Agnes and Patricia, at home; his father, M. H. Fitzpatrick, who has made his home with him for a number of years; two sisters, Mrs. Ed Kelley and Mrs. Dan Donohue, both of Iowa City. Several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

He was a member of St. Patrick's church of Iowa City, of the Knights of Columbus, and of the Iowa City Elk's Lodge.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning with burial at St. Joseph's cemetery.
