OBITUARY

GEO. H. GUFFIN

The subject of this sketch was born in Scoharie county, New York, February 24, 1828, and died in this city, January 14, 1879, in the 51st year of his age. He came to Illinois in 1855, and settled in this county, of which he has been a resident ever since, pursuing the occupation of farming for fifteen years, in which he was successful. About ten years ago Mr. Guffin was attacked by Epilepsy and, although a man of iron constitution, nature at last succumbed to the often repeated and severe attacks of that dreaded complaint. He leaves a wife and two sons, an aged father - who has seen the frosts of 85 winters - several brothers and a host of friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss. Although not a member of any church, the deceased led a Christian life, being upright and honorable in his dealings with his fellowmen, a good and kind neighbor, a benevolent citizen and an earnest advocate of any cause that to him seemed right.
His funeral took place last Saturday, Jan. 18, 1879, at the Presbyterian church, and the ceremonies were conducted by Rev. Wells, of Fulton, who delivered an eloquent discourse upon the solemn occasion. The attendance was large both at the church and grave, in Grove Hill Cemetery, where the remains were deposited in their final resting place. Requiescat in Peace
