Lila Gardner was born in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph G. and Savilla Miller Gingerich. She attended Rural West Lincoln School. Lila married Earl Gardner on December 26, 1953 in Washington County. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1985. Lila was employed by the housekeeping department at Mercy Hospital and also cleaned homes for families throughout the Iowa City area.
Lila was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge No. 84, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Kountry Quilters Club. She will be remembered for her tireless help in selling the American Legion poppies for Memorial Day and her willingness to serve on committees in all the organizations to which she belonged.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Velma Miller, an infant sister Barbara Ellen; and two brothers, Willis "Bill" Gingerich and George E. Gingerich.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the many acts of kindness that have been shown to them at this time of loss. Your support and love will be remembered always.
