Mary L. (Miller) Hochstedler
1923-2013

Mary L. Hochstedler, 90, or Hills, died Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Lone Tree Health Care Center following a brief illness. A celebration of life was held Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona with Pastor Doug Cue officiating. Burial was at the Sharon Center Methodist Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #695 of Iowa City.
Mary L. (Miller) Hochstedler was born February 14, 1923 in Yoder, Kansas, the daughter of Abner and Mabel (Schrock) Miller. She grew up in Kansas and was united in marriage to Robert Hochstedler on December 24, 1944 in Iowa City. Mary was a member of Ladies of the Moose, Eagles, and Hills Town and Country Club. She always looked forward to being with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and she loved to quilt, making quilts for all her family. Mary was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan, loved playing cards with friends and family, and her grandkids always looked forward to the cinnamon rolls she made. She enjoyed her winters in Arizona for many years.
Survivors include two children and spouses: Jerome “Jerry” (Judy) Hochstedler of Portland, Oregon, Bonnie (Don) Yeggy of Riverside; seven grandchildren and spouses: Samantha and Steve McCaskey of Portland, Stefanie Pagel and friend Roger Whitehead of Portland, Neil and Jennifer Hochstedler of Vancouver, Washington, Ron and Kristi Yeggy of Riverside, Leslie and Jason Chown of Lone Tree; 20 great-grandchildren: Emily, Madelyn and Alisha, Trevor and Brayden, Cohen and Allyson, Chelsea, Dylan and Jake, Skylar, Lanie and Bria, Madison, Ashley, Colton, and Kasey, Grady, Cael and Peyton; and one sister-in-law: Maxine Miller of Kalona.
Preceding Mary in death were her parents; her husband: Robert Hochstedler; and infant son: Eugene Robert Hochstedler; two brothers: J. Claude Miller and C. J. Miller; four sisters: Elta Burkholder, Ruth Eash, Ethel Miller and Odena Hostetler.
