Jeannette Hughes Winborn, 79 of Boonville, MO, died Monday, December 16, 2002. Mrs. Winborn was born the daughter of Erwin & Hattie Jones Hughes on their farm in Sharon Township, Johnson County, Iowa on June 28, 1923. She attended Maple Grove, a one room school, and Sharon Center High School. She married Walter Dean Winborn, a childhood friend who lived on a neighboring farm, on June 4, 1939 in Kahoka, MO. As newlyweds they farmed until Walter enlisted in the Army in 1945. She accompanied her husband to three overseas assignments in Germany, Thailand and Panama. The Winborns have made their home in Boonville sin 1968 following Walter's retirement.
Mrs. Winborn, over the course of her travels, had many interesting and varied work experiences including teaching English as a second language in both Thailand and Panama, and many years of employment at Sears, in Iowa and Colorado. In Boonville, Mrs. Winborn worked in the dentist office of Dr. Roberts before she and Walter purchased the Singer Sewing Machine Shop, which she ran for a number of years. She was also a welcomer at Wal-Mart.
As an active member of Nelson Memorial United Methodist Church, Mrs. Winborn served in many capacities. The Winborns celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary in June of this year. She especially enjoyed time spent with young people. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was an active bridge player all her adult life, and she also enjoyed craft projects.
