June Emma Niffenegger Winborn was born in rural Johnson County the daughter of Roscoe and Ida Grundbacher Niffenegger. She attended Fairview Rural School, graduated from City High, Iowa City in 1940 and attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.
On November 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Russell Winborn in the Sharon Center United Methodist Church parsonage. The couple lived and farmed in Johnson County until moving to the Pleasantview Campus eight years ago. June was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the WSCS. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and spinning. When Russell sheared sheep June would take the wool and process it into sweaters, hats and scarves. She also enjoyed teaching and demonstrating spinning.
Survivors include her husband Russell of Kalona, one son Warren and wife Barbara Winborn of Richland, Iowa, one daughter Diane and husband Marshall Mussig of Gladbrook, Iowa, eight grandchildren listed as casket bearers, 15 great-grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, Barbara Winborn of Iowa City, and one brother, Roscoe Jr. and wife Frankie Niffenegger, of Suisun City, CA.
Preceding June in death are her parents and one son, Randall Winborn.
A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your love and concern will be cherished always.
