Lloid E. Grout

Lloid Edward Grout was born on December 4, 1910 on a farm near Iowa City, IA. He was the oldest of six children of Harry and Neta (Southwick) Grout. He attended Sharon Center High School, Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA, and the University of Iowa.
Lloid married his high school sweetheart, Ethel E. Meer in 1932. Lloid and Ethel had 2 children - Janet and Jerry. Janet lives in Long Lake, MN with husband Jack Schuett and Jerry lives in Mesa, AZ with wife Nancy. They have given Lloid six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
After Lloid received his schooling, he taught in a rural school for 6 years, then sold insurance for IDS. During WWII, Lloid worked in a factory in Beloit, WI, and he traveled the north central started selling tire recapping supplies. He started his own auto parts business, National Parts Company, in Waukesha, WI, in 1944.
Lloid was very active in the Waukesha community. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a Rotarian, and a member of the Elks Lodge. He was a bank director, and officer in the state auto part association, President of the United Fund, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and very active in the development of the local country club, serving as president and director.
Lloid joined the Waukesha Rotary Club in 1946, where he served as President in 1954-55 and as District Governor from 1967-68. He continued to attend weekly meetings during his retirement.
in 1968 Lloid lost his wife, Ethel, and later married Wynn Zimmerman. She passed away in 1992.
In 1974 he retired to Sun City Center, FL, where he was very active in Rotary and the Shrine Club. He was instrumental in starting and running the local city-wide recycling program and he was voted Man of the Year in 1992. He traveled around Florida promoting the Rotary program to eliminate polio around the world, as long as he was able.
