Glenn Hall Miller was born, the son of Earl E. and Ruth Hall Miller, on the Century Farm where he grew up, farmed and raised his family. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1934 and married Marjorie L. Schwimley on May 18, 1944. Glenn was engaged in farming all of his life and owned coin laundries in Iowa City and Coralville for 28 years. He was an officer and active cookie baker for Cookies & More and Cookies, etc. for 13 and a half years. Glenn was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church and Fellowship Lodge #549, where he recieved his 50 year pin in 1996. He was a past director and officer in the Iowa Coin Laundry Association and a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife and four daughters and spouses: Jane and Ed O'Brien of Iowa City, Linda and Russ Kennel of Rock Island, IL., Mary Jo and Jon Banwart of Ames, and Kim and Rick Keilin of Aspen CO. Eight grandchildren also surviving are: Jack O'Brien, Chicago, IL., Alex O'Brien, Iowa City, Brooks Sherman, Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth and Russ Williams, Charlotte, NC., Andrew Kennel, Boulder, CO., Lauren Banwart, Ames, and Miller Keilin, Aspen, CO. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Delbert in 1983 and one granddaughter, Sara O'Brien Sherman in 1995.
A memorial fund has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, Fellowship Lodge #549, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them throughout Glenn's illness and at this time of loss. Your gracious deeds will always be remembered and cherished.
