Gerald William Cox was born in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Ethel Johnson Cox. He attended rural county schools and graduated from City High School, Iowa City in 1941. He was married to Lorna Eyman, November 1, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri. The couple farmed in Johnson County and Gerald also drove truck for John Steven's Trucking for 30 years. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Iowa City Moose Lodge and had served as President of the school board.
Gerald is survived by his wife Lorna, four sons, and spouses, Curtis and Laure of Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Dale of Laconia, New Hampshire, Jerry of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Russell and Sue of Clinton, Iowa and three grandchildren, Clinton Cox, of Ashland, New Hampshire, Tony Cox of Clinton, Iowa, and Adam Cox of Clinton, Iowa.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial fund has been established for Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has extended their prayers, love and other expressions of sympathy during this time of Gerald's illness and death.
