Wilbur Hughes, 75
Wilbur D. Hughes, 75, of Winfield died Saturday at Mercy Hospital.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, with burial in Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.
Memorial donations will go to University of Iowa cancer research.
Mr. Hughes was born Jan. 10, 1917, in Sharon Center, son of Erwin and Hattie Jones Hughes. He married Ruth Whipple in 1940. He later married Clara Weller June 18, 1968, in Chicago. She died March 28, 1991. He was a graduate of Sharon Center High School and farmed until 1960. From 1960 to 1979 he worked as a residence hall custodian at the University of Iowa. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Iowa City.
Survivors include one son, Richard of Iowa City; one daughter, Marilyn Mann of Chandler, Ariz.; three sisters, Pearle Hughes Carran of Iowa City, Lucille Palmer of West Liberty, and Jeanette Winborn of Booneville, MO.; and one grandchild.
His parents also died earlier.
