Les “Shorty” Nims, 62, of 1007 19th Avenue in Coralville, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 in his home after a long illness.

A Celebration of Les’ Life will be held Wednesday at 11: 00 AM at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Lensing’s Oak Hill. Mr. Nims will be cremated following the service with private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Les was born October 5, 1942 in West Union, Iowa, the son of Melvin & Arlene (Kamaus) Nims. He married Peggy Burke December 10, 1966 in Cedar Rapids. Les worked for 39 years for Northwestern Bell, US West and most recently QWest, retiring in 2001.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Peggy, of Coralville, daughter, Angela Nims of St. Paul, Minnesota, son, Chad Nims of Durham, North Carolina, his mother Arlene of West Union, brothers, Ronald Nims & his wife Ginger of Adel, Iowa and Eugene Nims & his wife Donna of Gray’s Lake, Illinois; sister, Ruth Reinerston & her husband Kenny of Fayette, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Les was preceded in death by his father.
