HENRY CLAY MILLER

In Graham township, Tuesday, the 9th inst., Mr Henry C. Miller, aged (nearly) forty-two years.
Mr. Miller removed from Philadelphia to Iowa in 1855, and has since been favorably known by many in our county. Several years ago he publicly confessed Christ and united with the Methodist Episcopal church. His subsequent life has been an honor to the Christian name. An affectionate husband, a kind father, an obliging neighbor and an earnest Christian, he was universally respected and beloved. The disease of which he died was lingering and painful, baffling the skill of numerous medical advisers. The decision of the profession, pronouncing his case hopeless was received calmly, pronouncing his case hopeless was received calmly, exultantly; for his faith grasped and made real the assurance that “to die is gain”. With great composure he arranged his business matters, said “Good bye” to wife and children, commending them to the care of Him who has promised to be the “widows God, and a father to the fatherless,” and entered into his rest. Funeral services were held in the beautiful grove of the cemetery one mile and a half east of Newport, where a large assembly gathered to pay the last tribute of respect to a neighbor and friend. An appropriate and impressive sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Spinning, from Rev. 14: 13; Blessed are the dead who die In the Lord from henceforth: yea saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.
