Philip J. Vander Laan, 64 longtime resident of Iowa City died Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City under the compassionate care of Hospice.

Philip John Vander Laan was born August 13, 1953 in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Harold and Muriel (Van Binsbergen) Vander Laan. Growing up in Orange City, Iowa he attended schools there graduating from high school and college from Northwestern College. He later went on to receive his Master’s Degree while living in Texas. He has lived in Iowa City for some time now, many who knew him appreciated his construction and painting skills that served him well here.

His family includes his daughter, Johanna B. Vander Laan of Wheatland, CO; his parents, Harold and Muriel Vander Laan of Orange City, IA; and his sister, Rebecca Koster (Martin) of Morrisn, IL.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David, and a brother in infancy.
