Born February 9, 1953 in Iowa City, the daughter of Joseph and Jane (Beasley) Hanrahan, Teresa grew up in Iowa City and attended St. Patrick’s Grade School. She graduated from Regina High School in 1971. Teresa married Tim O’Neil on July 15, 1977 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. They celebrated forty years of marriage this summer with their children and grandchildren on a family trip to the Wisconsin Dells.

While in high school, Teresa worked for Northwestern Bell beginning in 1969, and in 1984 left to care for her young family. She assisted Dr. Dan Hogan in Oxford, Iowa for two years and in 1992, Teresa began her next career at ACT – where she ultimately worked as an executive secretary for more than 25 years.

Teresa was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother who loved helping others. When people met Teresa, she left a lasting impression on them whether they had just met or known her a lifetime. Teresa was an avid volunteer, including service as a Cub Scout den mother, elementary school room mom, T-ball coach, religious education teacher, PTO member and served in numerous capacities at St. Patrick Catholic Church. She also mentored several engaged couples through the marriage preparation program and walked with many women through their breast cancer journeys. Many of her most cherished memories included time she spent with her seven grandchildren and she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of two more.

Teresa is survived by her husband Tim O’Neil; her children, Tim O’Neil (Sarah) of Urbandale and their children, Andrew, Addison and Isabelle, Kelli Rice (Dan) of Iowa City and their children, Mia, Delaney and Baby R (due in February) and Dan O’Neil (Lauren) of Solon and their children, Robby, Theo and Baby O (due in April); brothers and sisters, Mary Jane Walker of Iowa City, Joe Hanrahan (Renee) of Cedar Rapids, Dan Hanrahan of Cedar Rapids, Margaret Juels (Tim) of West Branch, Mike Hanrahan (Kirsten) of Iowa City, Marty Hanrahan (Ann) of Iowa City and Tim Hanrahan of West Branch;

brothers and sisters in law, Eileen De Armond (Art) of North Liberty, Peggy Molback (Gary), Andy O’Neill (Marsha), Nan Nerad (Kevin) and Steve O’Neil (Jan), all of Iowa City, Leanne Rathjen (Don) of Atalissa, Julie O’Neil-King (George King) of Spearfish, South Dakota and Barb Carlson (Mike) of Columbus Junction, brother in law, Butch Buck of West Branch and many, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jane Hanrahan; an infant sister, Sheila; a brother in law, Jerry O’Neil; a sister in law, Laura Buck and a nephew, David Molback.
