Dorothy M. Thomas, 96, of Iowa City, formerly of Muscatine, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville.

Dorothy Marie McGaughey was born April 20, 1921, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of George and Estha (Vetter) McGaughey. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1938 and from the State University of Iowa in 1942. She was united in marriage to John L. Thomas on July 1, 1943, in Charleston, West Virginia. The couple made their home in Muscatine, where she taught math in the public schools for many years. She was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Muscatine.

Her family includes two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Jerry Zinn of North Liberty, and Carol and Bill Dollman of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Nathan Zinn (Jennifer), Tony Zinn, Kristen Dollman-Stoll (Jim Stoll), and Doug Dollman (Tera); five great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Whitney, and Caleb Zinn; and Ella and Nolan Dollman; and Dorothy’s cousin, Jean Hoeksema. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John.
