Gordon MacLeod Burt, loving husband of Ruth, father of Shirley and David, grandfather of Elianno, Jonah and Maeve, died suddenly on the morning of September 10 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Gordon MacLeod Burt was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1935 to Albert Burt and Margaret MacLeod. He grew up on the south side of Glasgow and as his father died when he was 11, he developed a strong sense of responsibility. He was a devoted family man, both as a son, husband and father with a work ethic that ensured he could provide for everyone who was dependent upon him.

He entered the insurance industry at 17 with Stenhouse Insurance Company as a message boy. When he retired in 1994 at 59, he was financial director of the company, which had grown into a worldwide leader in the insurance industry. At 18, he joined the Royal Air Force for his compulsory military service, returning to Stenhouse two years later.

On July 13, 1957, he met Ruth McLean and one week later he proposed. They were married in Glasgow on March 26, 1959. His work as an insurance broker took the family to many different locations - Manchester, Edinburgh, Dublin, London and Milan.
At the end of his career, Ruth and Gordon returned to Glasgow and he retired in 1994. They continued moving house regularly for twenty years and in 2014 relocated to Iowa City where they enjoyed three wonderful years close to family.
