Florentine Ann Dalton Pickett, 96, of West Branch, passed away peacefully at Crestview Specialty Care Center on August 17, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in West Branch. Burial will be held at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice, 3720 Queen Court SW, Suite #9, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404-4735.

Born June 15, 1921 on the family farm in rural NW Iowa, Florentine was the daughter of Mike and Lucy (Staab) Hansen. She lived at the family residence until she went to St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Carroll. Following school, Florentine continued to practice as a nurse in Carroll, IA, Iowa City, IA and in the state of Arkansas until later retiring at the age of 70.

Florentine married Wilbert “Webb” Dalton on June 14, 1944. Together, the couple had five children: Michael, Mark, Barry, Mary and Kelly. Florentine attended numerous catholic churches throughout her life, and was most recently a member of St. Bernadette’s in West Branch. She also served as a volunteer for the North Liberty Library and was a longtime member of The National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).

Survivors include four children: Mike (Sheila) Dalton of West Branch, Mark (Diane) Dalton of Iowa City, Barry (Juanita “Nita”) Dalton of Riverside, IA, and Mary “Marti” Bontrager of Iowa City; 9 grandchildren: Angela (Dennis) Jordan of Marion, IA, Ann Bagchi of New Jersey, Matthew (Natasha) Dalton of Hills, IA, Dan (Quan) Dalton of Encinitas, CA, Amy Peterson of San Diego, CA, Cory (Casey) Wright of Leawood, KS, Brian (Traci) Hahn of Iowa City, Camie (Scott Fetting) Castleberry of Reedsburg, WI, and Christie (Brian Saylor) Hahn of Iowa City; 19 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Florentine was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son Kelly, four brothers: Francis, Michael, Robert and Norbert; three sisters: Gertrude Recker, Valeria O’Connell, and Rena Marie Burns; and a son-in-law Richard “Dick” Bontrager.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Crestview Specialty Care Center for the compassionate care shown to Florentine during her last years.
