Lloyd J. Frei, 78, died peacefully Thursday, July 27th at The Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County.
Funeral Services to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 31st at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Rev. Mark Pries officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lloyd Frei Memorial Fund.
Lloyd was born December 10, 1938 in Iowa City, the son of Oliver and Freda Evans Frei. He was a 1957 graduate of City High School, where he was on the rifle team, and attended the University of Iowa. Lloyd served in the US Army at the White Sands missile range. On June 17, 1961 Lloyd married Diane Harding in Wilton Junction, IA.
Lloyd was an electrical engineer in the department of psychology at the University of Iowa for 45 years. He had also worked in the UI department of physics where he was involved with the shake test on satellites. Lloyd also wrote technical manuals on the NIKE-ZEUS missile system.
He was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed fishing in Minnesota. Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Diane and their four children, Kevin (Felice) of Houston, Bryan (Karin) of Coralville, Troy (Deanna) of Iowa City and Cynthia (Tom) Robinson of Nebraska City, NE; eleven grandchildren, Evan, Erik, Kyle, Madison, Morgan, Andrew, Ashley, Anthony, Kimberly, Jaimee and Sherisha; seven great grandchildren, Lincoln, Turner, Abigail, Jack, Kasey, Alexa and Tiffany; three sisters, Loretta Snyder and Judy (Dr. James) Werth, both of Harlington, TX and Joyce Fountain of Alamo, TX.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Tom Fountain.
