Long-time Paradise, California resident, Alta Gillett Caven, 101, passed away on Monday, March 27,, 2017 at the Solon Care Center in Solon, Iowa.

Alta and her first husband Basil R. Gillett were co-owners of Gillett Rexall Drug Store, Paradise, CA. She was active in community affairs and many Masonic associations including being a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 83 years, PEO, DAR, and a charter member of Chico Nile Club, White Shrine, Beauceant, Soroptimist, Agenda Club, Elk’s Wives and past Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls. After Basil’s death she married William Caven and they continued an active life in Paradise.

Her ashes will be buried in the family plot in Paradise Cemetery at a future date.

Survivors include: daughter Marthan Gillett Shepardson (Richard), two grandsons, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands, sister Mae Brouillard and daughter Rayleen Frantz (Jerry).

Memorials can be made to the Alta & Basil Gillett Memorial Scholarship at Butte Community College, Oroville, CA.
