JoAnn Manderscheid, 82, died peacefully Tuesday, February 7th at Solon Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Thursday, February 16th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Jeff Belger officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Humane Society or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

JoAnn was born June 6, 1934 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of John and Carol Rose Loiacono Manderscheid. She was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School in Buffalo and attended the University of Buffalo. JoAnn was employed in the department of pediatrics at UIHC for 38 years, where she was the Residency Program Coordinator, retiring in 1999.

Most important to JoAnn was her family and her close group of friends, which were diverse in age and culture. She loved children and her pets. JoAnn was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Altrusa and a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. She loved to travel, bowl, ice skate, swim and ski. JoAnn enjoyed cooking and welcoming people into her home, especially at Thanksgiving, her favorite holiday. One of her longstanding passions which should not go unnoticed is her staunch support for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include her cousins, Cheryl Furstace, Frank (Mary) Loiacono, Joe Furstace, Antonia Faber, Michelle Furstace, Sue (Al) Torsell, Paul (Joyce) Runfola and Natalie Runfola, all of Buffalo, New York; her children in spirit, Alex & Laura Taylor Family of Coralville, Karen Dunphy, Teeny Dunphy and Michael Dunphy, all of Iowa City; and her many friends.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents.
