Clarence L. “Hop” Funk, 64, of Iowa City, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A time of sharing and stories will begin at 7:00 pm Wednesday.

Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to cancer research at The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Research Center at UIHC or The American Diabetes Association.

Born and raised in Iowa City, Hop was born December 30, 1952, the son of John and Ruth (Hauk) Funk. He graduated from Iowa City High School in 1971.

Growing up he worked at Muller Plumbing and soon took a job with the City of Iowa City in the Wastewater Department – where he spent the next 30 years.

Hop was married to Margaret “Peg” Funk for many years and together they had two sons, Matt and Josh. Hop and Peg later divorced.

Hop married Cindy Dohman May 12, 2001 in Iowa City.

Hop loved to work with copper and metal to craft and showcase his metal art work. He also had a punchline for every comment! Above all, Hop was a very kind and generous man who loved his family and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Cindy; sons, Matt Funk and Josh Funk (Rachel), all of Iowa City;
step-daughter, Heather Wyjack (Tom) of Solon; grandchildren, Rylee Funk – who has a little brother or sister on the way and Adia and Ashten Wyjack; brother, Ken Funk (Deb) of Iowa City, sisters, Gloria Kelley and Ruth Allender (Pat), all of Iowa City; several nieces and nephews; his mother in law, Mary Barnett (Jim) of Ft. Madison; sister in law, Anita Funk of Iowa City and the family cocker spaniel - Joe Cocker.

Hop was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Larry Funk, brother in law Bob Kelley and Hop and Cindy’s first adopted puppy, Patch.
