Jean A. Quinlan, 55, of Oxford, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Marengo Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Reverend Edmond Dunn will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at St. Mary’s Church. A parish vigil service will begin Thursday at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorials be directed to The Jean Quinlan Memorial Fund.

Jean was born August 15, 1961 in Knoxville, Iowa, the daughter of Maxwell and Mary (Porter) Beavers. Growing up in North Liberty, she graduated from Iowa City West High in 1979. She married William “Bill” Quinlan September 7, 1991 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford.

Jean was a hard worker. She worked at University of Iowa Hospitals, starting in 1979 in the dietary department. After a number of years, she worked in chart control in General Surgery – later switching to the Neurosurgery Department.

Jean enjoyed gardening, crocheting, putting together puzzles, reading and watching movies. She had a love for animals.

Jean is survived by her husband Bill; 2 sons, AJ Quinlan and Jerry Quinlan, both of Oxford; sister, Charlet Daft (Larry) of Colfax, Iowa; step-brother, Terry Rachels (Mary) of North Carolina; brother in law, John Baxter of Clarence, Iowa, step-mother, Betty Beavers of Colfax, Iowa; step-sisters, Charlotte Smith (Paul) of Mingo, Iowa, Twyla Berry of Indianola, Iowa and Carol Berry of Colfax; her mother in law, Mary Quinlan of Oxford, brothers in law, Tony Quinlan (Marilee) of Coralville and Tom Quinlan (Rachel) of Oxford; sisters in law, Katie Villhauer (Jim) of Oxford, Suzy Quinlan of Iowa City; a beloved companion, Brody and various aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her adoptive father Edward Rachels, sisters, Marsha Baxter, Lisa Rachels and Rita Beavers and her father in law, Gerald Quinlan.
