Helen Elaine Griffin, 92, of Iowa City passed away on December 1, 2016 surrounded by her family.

A funeral service to celebrate Helen’s life will be at 10:30 am, Monday, December 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with Father Steve Witt officiating. Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Sunday, December 4 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the American Cancer Society or to Iowa City Hospice.

Helen was born on April 29, 1924 in Iowa County, daughter of Cleve T. and Mary Evangeline Evans. On August 2, 1943, Helen married William A. Griffin in Champaign, IL.

Helen is a lifelong resident of Iowa City and worked at Oral B Laboratories for over 30 years. She was involved in the community was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Altar and Rosary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Iowa City Women’s Club and a past member of Women of the Moose.

Helen is survived by her two sons, Charles N. Griffin of Iowa City, IA and William P. (Bonnie) Griffin of Clinton, IA; six grandchildren, Heather, Chad, Nicole, Elaina, Kimberly and Terry; eleven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Keirstyn, Sydney, Drake, Kara, Aven, Tanner, Damon, Madilynn, Carley and Mandy; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kobe, TaLeah and Tiahna; her sister, Gertrude Fuhrmeister and numerous extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Charles Evans and her sisters Edith Dahnke and Fern Kobes.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Solon Care Center for taking amazing care of Helen.
