Susan K. "Sue" Sweeney, 58, of Iowa City, died suddenly Monday morning, September 5, 2016 in Big Springs, Nebraska, while traveling home from a family reunion.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 12th from 4:00 to 7:30 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. A Celebration of Sue's Life will begin Tuesday, September 13th at 10:30 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Kyle Otterbein officiating. Visitation will also be held Tuesday morning beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will be Tuesday afternoon in the Cass Township Cemetery in Strawberry Point. Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to The Susan K. Sweeney Memorial Fund.

Born November 6, 1957 in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of R. Duane & Evelyn (Liebsch) Munter, Sue grew up in Strawberry Point.

She attended Starmont High School – later transferring and graduating from Sycamore High School in Illinois. Upon graduation, Sue attended Illinois Wesleyan University and before her sophomore year, moved to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa.

After living and working in Minneapolis and Sycamore, Sue returned to Iowa City. She worked for the Dain Bosworth Co, the Iowa City Press-Citizen and was the cafeteria manager at Irving Weber Elementary School when she retired.

Sue married Jim Sweeney on August 29, 1992 in Iowa City.

She is survived by her husband Jim; her daughter Becky Sweeney of Cedar Rapids; sisters Kathy Munter of Tucson, AZ and Nancy Munter (Todd) of Madison, WI; brothers, Ron Munter (Melanie) of California City, CA and Jack Munter of Denver, CO; seven nieces and eight nephews; fourteen great nieces and ten great nephews, and five great-great nieces and nephews: brothers in law, Joe Sweeney (Margie) of Pueblo West, CO and Dan Sweeney of Cedar Rapids and sisters in law, Donna Kelley and Sharon Sweeney, both of Iowa City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father in-law, two aunts, 3 uncles, a sister in-law and a brother in law.
