Wayne LaRue Case passed away on July 30, 2016 at Lantern Park Nursing Home, Coralville, Iowa. He died of heart failure at the age of 84.

Services for Wayne will be held at St. Michael’s Church in Kingsley, IA on August 12, 2016 beginning at 10:30 AM. The family will be available to greet friends and family at 9:30 AM. A luncheon will begin at 12:30.

Wayne was born on March 23, 1932 at the farmhouse of his parents, Oscar and Ruth (Martin) Case near Marcus, IA.

Serving in the Marines during the Korean War, Wayne was wounded in January of 1953. For the loss of his leg he was awarded the Purple Heart. He married Mary Anne Mockler of Kingsley in 1956; their six children and eleven grandchildren were the center of Wayne’s life.
Wayne worked in a succession of jobs, maintaining a lively sense of humor throughout his life. Keenly aware of the difference between supporting our troops (which he did) and supporting our wars (which he increasingly didn’t), Wayne served in positions of responsibility for the DAV, VFW, and American Legion in Sioux City and New Glarus, WI. In 1989 he was proud to lay a wreath at the dedication of Iowa’s Korean War Memorial.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of sixty years Mary Anne and their children: Martin (Minneapolis), wife Mona Smith, Nathaniel and Riley; Todd (Iowa City), wife Alesa, Teague and Eamon; Monica (New Glarus) and Owen; Tamra Higgins (Jeffersonville, VT), husband Steve, Tara and Lucy; Clark (Dixon, NM), partner Nicole DeMaret, Nicholas and Isabel; and Jesse (Iowa City), wife Shelly Kerr, Keenan and Nolan. He is also survived by brother Delbert (Mary); brother Steve (Pam); sister Gail; and many nieces and nephews
.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Lantern Park Specialty Care of Coralville Iowa and the staff at the Iowa City VA Hospital ICU, 7E and White Team for the compassion and care extended to Wayne.
