Janet Kay Strand, 74 of Iowa City, passed away at her home Monday, July 25, 2016 surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 29 at 10 am at St. Patrick’s Church with the Very Reverend Rudolph Juarez officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with a Rosary at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations may be offered to the American Cancer Society, St. Patrick’s Chapel of Perpetual Adoration or the Informed Choices Medical Clinic.

Janet was born December 21, 1941 in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ruby Lincoln Reed. She moved to Iowa City in 1961 where she married Donald Strand September 14, 1963.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and served as coordinator for the Iowa City Chapel of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. Janet was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Iowa City; her five children, Virginia “Ginny” (Evan) Strand Davis of Iowa City, Cheryl (Scott Shrader) McWilliams of North Liberty, Alicia (Lance) Miller of Manchester, Bradley (Shannon) Strand of Iowa City and Eric (Rose) Strand of Iowa City; her siblings, Linda Rice, Jerry (Rita) Reed, Dennis Reed, Gordon (Bonnie) Reed, and 11 grandchildren, Andrew (Kelsey), Emily, Joshua, Sarah, Miriam, Charlene, Isabelle, Mara, Cooper, Henry, Otto and great-grandson, Silas.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Larry and her sister Joyce.
