Shrinivas Hundi Kamath, 84, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 5th at home.

Services will be held later in July with the time and date to be announced. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Shrinivas was born April 12, 1932 in Munjeshwar, India, the son of Haripant M. Kamath and Seetha H.Kamath, (nee) Bhutt. On December 6, 1962 he married Patricia Caldwell of Mount Vernon, Iowa in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India.

In addition to his other degrees earned, he received his Doctorate of Chemistry from The Indian Institute of Science of the University in Bombay. Shrinivas was a medical researcher at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics for many years and had previously engaged in cancer research at the Hahnaman Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served as Associate Professor of Pathology/Atomic Energy research director at the University of Puerto Rico. After his retirement from the University of Iowa, he worked for several years at Bio-Resources in North Liberty, Iowa, permanently retiring at age 81.

Survivors include his wife Patricia of Iowa City and their two children and two grandsons, Sheila Rose Kamath and her husband Matthew Coles of Medway, Massachusetts and Sean Hari Kamath and his wife Elizabeth and their sons, Tobias Akira and Simon Ilya of Redwood City, California; his brother, Madhav (Mark) Kamath of Coralville; his brother-in-law, Roy Caldwell and his wife Gloria of Berkeley, California; his two nephews Jayant Kamath and Anant Kamath of Coralville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shakutala.
