M. Katherine Lewis, 92 of Iowa City, IA. died Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with graveside services later in the day at 3pm at the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in Katherine’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Mary Katherine Oaks was born June 10, 1923, in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of John and Kathryn (Whelan) Oaks. She attended schools in Little York, Il, graduating with the class of 1940 from Little York High School. She was united in marriage to Clyde W. Lewis on July 19, 1952, in Galesburg, IL. The couple with their family had lived in Monmouth, Waterloo, IA, and Port Charlotte, FL before moving to Iowa City, IA in 1972. Here Katherine worked as the credit manager for Cargill in West Branch.

Katherine especially enjoyed her family and if you wanted to bring a smile to her face, just mention her grandchildren or great-grandchildren. She was always up for a game of cards with her grandchildren and though she was a competitor at cards, she always let them win. When Clyde was still living she enjoyed fishing and glasses of ice tea while just discussing the day’s events. After Clyde’s passing, she enjoyed traveling to Kentucky with family to spend time with a long-time friend whose husband had also passed. She always had a smile on her face unless you tried to toss her DQ sundae before she was finished. Boy, did she enjoy her DQ sundaes----always asked for a small one but she never turned down the large size.

Her family includes her three children; Rick and Sue Lewis of Iowa City, IA; Greg and Susie Lewis of Elk River, MN, and Deb and Scott Thompson of Pequot Lakes, MN; 9 grandchildren; Christopher (Rebecca) Lewis of Lafayette, CO; Jennifer (Jaffa) Rosenfels of Broomfield, CO; Jonathan Lewis (Justine Chatterton) of Manchester, CT; Benjamin Lewis of Iowa City, IA; John (Andrea) Lewis of Minnetrista, MN, Andy (Christina) Lewis of Plymouth, MN, Tim (fiancé Pathy) Lewis of Mankato, MN; Jamie (Adam) Moyer of Elko, MN, Kelley Thompson of Minneapolis, MN; and 7 great-grandchildren: Kellan and Harper Rosenfels; Will, Ryan, Ella, and Ivy Lewis; and Taylor Moyer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clyde in 1985; 3 brothers, John, Carroll and Edgar Oaks, and her sister, Bertha Young.
